Yunnan Provincial Academy of Science and Technology (YPAST) is a novel scientific research institution established by the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government to further implement the innovation-driven development strategy, strengthen the provincial industrial technology innovation system, and support the province's new industrialization, informatization, and modern service industries. It integrates research on common technologies, key technologies, and forward-looking technologies. YPAST undertakes the construction and daily management of several key initiatives, including the Yunnan Provincial Promotion Center for the Biomedicine and Healthcare Industry, the Headquarters of the Science and Technology Innovation Center for South and Southeast Asia, the Tengchong Scientists Forum, the Yunnan Academy of Engineering and Technology Development Strategy, and the Yunnan Branch of the Eastern China National Technology Transfer Center.

Focusing on industrial technology collaborative innovation, YPAST centers its efforts on industrial technology research and development, international sci-tech cooperation, sci-tech services, and the transfer and commercialization of sci-tech achievements. It adheres to one core positioning—collaborative innovation; emphasizes two key tasks—leading organized forward-looking research and promoting high-quality transfer and commercialization of sci-tech achievements; and provides three support services—comprehensive sci-tech management support services, operational management services for the Yunnan Academy of Engineering and Technology Development Strategy, and sci-tech talent support services. YPAST concentrates on four major industrial sectors—biomedicine, new materials, new energy, and the digital economy—by planning collaborative innovation for major projects. This aims to establish a full-chain innovation system encompassing the development of common key technologies, talent cultivation and recruitment, platform support, engineering applications, and enterprise incubation. The academy drives the innovation and accumulation of a batch of original achievements, public service platforms, and core data, effectively supporting the development of key industries in the province.
